Grapefruit Gala

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve liked grapefruit. Maybe it was because my mom would often feed me grapefruit. I just really liked that sweet and sour taste. A lot of people seem to dislike the bitterness, but I’ve never thought grapefruit was bitter, for some reason.

So last week, I made some grapefruit juice-based cocktails.

I often order a greyhound when I’m at a bar, just because it’s so simple and yet so delicious. I tried making it with a grapefruit-flavored vodka this time. It had a nice grapefruit flavor, but maybe it was a little too strong. A 1:3 or 2:7 ratio of vodka to grapefruit juice would probably be more pleasant.

The grapefruit juice was a little tart, so this drink was lacking in sweetness. I remade this for my friends a few days later, and I added half an ounce of simple syrup, which seemed to make it taste better.

1.5 oz white rum
2 oz grapefruit juice
0.5 oz simple syrup

It seems like you can make a daiquiri out of any fruit, so why not grapefruit? I actually preferred the original daiquiri, though. I’m not sure that grapefruit juice and rum really go together that well. Still, it was worth a try, like most drinks.
